Our reproduction strap-hinges are 100% hand forged with hand-hammered beveled edges and a gentle taper to the finial. These are the real-thing! The welds are even forge-welded shut for strength just like the old hinges on so many old homes, barns and buildings from the 1700's and early 1800's. Typically, you want the hinge to stretch half to three-quarters across the width door. For example, if you have a 30"-32" wide door, then you usually want an 18" or a 24" hinge. The 12" is great for narrow cabinet doors or shutters and the 30" is great for extra wide doors.

Don't forget to order pintles for your hinges!!! The pintle is the mount that the hinge swings on. 12" and 18" strap hinges mount on 3/8" pintles and the 24" and 30" lengths mount on 1/2" pintles. Look below strap hinges to see pintle ordering options.

You can order these pintles independent of hinges if you need one (to replace an old one for an existing hinge), OR if you are ordering NEW hinges, you will need to order a pintle for each hinge to hang it on. The 3/8" ones are for our 12" and 18" strap hinges. The 1/2" fit our 24" and 30" lengths of strap hinges.

These false strap hinges bear no weight so there is no need to mount a pintle. Simply mount the "hinge" to the door face and they give the appearance of an old fashioned strap hinge. Great for doors which are already hung on hinges. Gives your doors an "old-fashioned" period look without re-hanging the door! Also look great on shutters and cabinet doors.
